New Craftsman Style Custom Home
WHERE
Edina, MN
Craftsman style home was custom designed on a lot with an existing home, previously removed.
The new home was constructed by a developer as a speculative project and considering the state of the market and the how quickly the house was sold, is an example of how well designed homes can influence sales and market value.
The design program was based on a two story configuration with Main floor Great room, open floor concept to promote casual entertainment. The main floor also included formal dining room and library. Gourmet kitchen design includes a walk-in Pantry and connected to the formal dining room through the built-in butler pantry.
The kitchen was also connected to the three car garage through a well planned Mudroom space which includes a drop zone, guest powder bath and ample amount of storage space for seasonal clothing.
The second floor provided the space for an inviting and well thought through master suite. A junior suite in addition to two bedrooms with common (Jack & Jill) bathroom and the laundry room were also an integral part of this floor space. The space above the garage was designed and constructed as a bonus space for a cozy family evening activities. The space was enhanced by dormers to provide natural light, ventilation and provided the additional exterior appeal.
The open rail stair adjacent to the two story Foyer provided the perception of greater sense of entry, connecting the main floor to the floor above. Although the lot was fairly flat, the architect was able to design the lower level to have full height window, by carefully raising the main floor elevation above the front yard grade. The basement space provides additional entertainment space, including a wet bar, family room and a spare guest bedroom and bath.
