WHAT

Two Story Home

WHERE

Edina, MN

Blend of Modern and Prairie Style, defines this new spec home, built in place of an existing home, utilizing its existing foundation, it was designed to create a unique balance of casual lifestyle and functional spaces, filled with light and open floor plan. Unlike most similar projects in the area, this home was designed with sustainability in mind; the new home was designed to build upon the existing foundation and the main floor system. Small addition filled in a portion of the footprint for most efficient use of the space and addition of the third stall garage.

The main floor is ideal for entertaining, while the second floor creates the sense of peace and relaxations with an inviting master suite, with its own spa like master bath, and two extra spacious bedrooms and family den, along with the second floor laundry room. The existing basement was completely redesigned to create the "man cave" environment for entertaining.

The design of the exterior is the architect’s vision of a blend of Prairie Style and Modernist vernacular. The use of varying type of siding material and color was to create a combination of colors and textures that would lend to its bold presence. While the horizontal banding further emphasized the Prairie style design, the play of the rectangular shapes and elements, provides a unique Modernist vision. The strategic application of glass, further accentuate this vision.

A completely new second floor addition accommodated the bedrooms, laundry room and a large family bonus space. The main floor was completely reconfigured and re-designed for today’s casual lifestyle with open floor plan concept, light filled spaces and plenty of room for entertainment.

The existing basement was completely redesigned to create a new and inviting space for a cozy area with its fireplace, built in bar and TV watching.
